Statement Concerning the Agreement Renewal from Dr Diane Francœur, President of the FMSQ
Montreal, October 31, 2016 – "Once again, the Minister is playing the part of the Lone Ranger. He summons the medical federations, barely 90 minutes before his press conference, to initiate discussions on an agreement which expired in March 2015. He announces the results of a negotiation that hasn't even started. Should we once again expect that this negotiation will end in an agreement the Government will rush to reopen again, no matter the pretext or the context ? Once again, it may be able not to honour its signature.
"How can we put our trust in Gaétan Barrette, who started off by disowning his first signature as Minister of Health in November 2014 ? And yet, the re-distribution of the 2006 agreement and the trailer clause were HIS proposals.
"The FMSQ has always been of good faith in its negotiations and was the first to contribute to restoring fiscal health. We therefore intend to continue to be of good faith, but we must insist on the same from the Minister.
"As usual, we will not negotiate in the public arena. We will start by meeting with our people this week and will reserve further comments for later.
"The Minister can hold as many press conferences as he wishes. In the meantime, physicians will continue to care for their patients."
