Continuing Professional Development in the Digital Age Launch of the FMSQ's Online Learning Platform
Montreal, November 21, 2014 – This morning, during its Interdisciplinary Education Day (IED), the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ) launched its new online learning platform. This new tool was developed by the Federation to support the needs for continuing professional development (CPD) by Quebec's medical specialists and those of its affiliated medical associations.
"After more than a year's work, we are especially proud of today's unveiling of our online learning platform, a project that is integral to our aim of maintaining CPD at the forefront," stressed the President of the FMSQ, Dr Diane Francœur. "Beyond the visible advantages offered by this new tool, there is a rich, complete and revitalized experience of CPD that we wish to offer to all medical specialists. Dedicated to learning and development, as well as to opportunities for sharing and collaboration between colleagues, our new platform includes a unique CPD management framework which, I hope, will become a reference in the medical field," added Dr Francœur.
With this new online learning management system, medical specialists benefit from a unique, efficient and user-friendly computer environment to manage their continuing professional development. In fact, the platform offers social and collaborative learning; 24-hour-a-day availability of courses; monitoring of the evolution of their learning and development portfolio; the possibility of taking courses free-of-charge which earn credits in Sections 1, 2 and 3 of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's (RCPSC) Maintenance of Certificate (MOC) program with the possibility of automating registration in MAINPORT of certain completed courses; as well as tools and content for the Collège des médecins du Québec's CPD self-management plan.
The FMSQ's new online learning platform is governed by a management committee and five advisory committees including one on governance, another for consultation, and the last three on pedagogical matters, technical aspects and users. Entirely financed by the FMSQ, this new tool is offered to all medical specialists, no matter what their specialty, and will be dedicated exclusively to offering educational material and CPD.
The Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec represents close to 10,000 medical specialists certified in one of the 53 recognized medical specialties.
