Medical Imagery Coverage : Nothing New for the FMSQ
Montreal, April 10, 2013 – Insofar as the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ) is concerned, this morning's press conference regarding the astonishing alliance between the Quebec Medical Association (QMA) and Médecins québécois pour le régime public (MQRP), essentially takes up what the FMSQ has stated publicly for many years.
"The decision, the pertinence and the will to choose what makes up the public service package offered to the population is the sole purview of the State which has had, has, and will always have the power to make its legislative choices. It is up to the government to decide. Thereafter, we negotiate according to what the government has adopted into law. There is nothing else to say," declared Dr Gaétan Barrette, President of the FMSQ.
It must be made clear that the QMA has no role to play in the negotiations between medical specialists or general practitioners and the government. In addition, the MQRP represents some 500 physicians out of more than 19,000 practising in Quebec.
The Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec represents more than 9,000 medical specialists certified in one of the 53 recognized medical specialties.
