Demographics Data

The following table gives the number of medical specialists in active practice as of
September 20, 2011 and their average age for each medical or surgical specialty.

It should be emphasized that medical specialization requires a minimum of 5 to 7 years.
In addition to the training required to become a general practitioner. This means that physicians are approximately 30 years of age when they start to practise specialized medicine.

Distribution by Gender

It is also interesting to note the distribution of medical specialists based on gender. As of September 20, 2011. there were 3,137 female and 5,499 male medical specialists on the Roll of the FMSQ.
