Orthopedics

Orthopedists are medical specialists who take care of the musculoskeletal system, and provide both medical and surgical care in the management of diseases of the bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and nerves. Orthopedists treat fractures, dislocations, ligament injuries (sprains), herniated disks, bone and other tumours. They also deal with congenital malformations (club foot, congenital dislocation of the hip), abnormal growth (scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis), sequelae of infections or inflammatory diseases (poliomyelitis, rheumatoid arthritis) etc.

Orthopedists are called upon to perform various types of surgery to repair fractures (highway accidents, sports injuries, etc.), replace painful arthritic joints by artificial ones, and correct all types of malformation, whether present at birth or occurring as a result of cerebral palsy or trauma.
