FMSQHistoryThe idea of a professional syndicate for medical specialists came into being in the early 1960’s. It was rumoured at that time that the government wanted to place the medical community on a salaried basis. Dr. Raymond Robillard and some of his colleagues took the initiative of setting up a formal structure that would group Quebec medical specialists together so that they could negotiate on an equal footing with the government. On December 14, 1965, Dr. Robillard received the Letters Patent establishing the FMSQ as a professional syndicate. Starting with 11 affiliated associations of medical specialists, there are now 34 associations covering 35 medical specialties. Six medical specialists have been President of the FMSQ since its foundation:
