Subsidiaries

The FMSQ has created two subsidiaries: the Professionals Financial and Sogemec Assurances. Through them, FMSQ works to ensure the financial health of its members by offering them a range of financial services and benefits. All members of the Federation are shareholders in these two subsidiaries, which also serve other professionals (notaries, dentists, architects, pharmacists, etc.).

The Professionals Financial – Investment Fund
The Professionals Financial – Privately Managed

Established by the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec in 1978, Professionals Financial is the first financial institution owned exclusively by Québec professional groups to have reached $1 billion in managed assets in Québec in 2003.

Initially designed for professionals not covered by a pension plan and their family members, Professionals Financial today offers complete, personalized mutual fund, private wealth management and financial, fiscal, estate and retirement planning services. The Group’s investment solutions are focused on long-term performance and protecting capital, and its management and professional fees are among the lowest in Canada. The Group actively manages assets of over $1.9 billion for more than 8,500 clients.

Its mission is to:

• Help its members establish and reach their financial goals;
• Advise them in the selection of investment vehicles for the purpose of retirement and wealth creation through sound financial planning;
• Provide advice, products and services that meet their expectations for growth while preserving capital.

In order to provide an outstanding level of service to its clientele – which also includes the Association des chirurgiens dentistes du Québec, the Corporation de service des notaires du Québec (subsidiary of the Chambre des notaires du Québec), the Association des architectes en pratique privée du Québec and the Association québécoise des pharmaciens propriétaires – Professionals Financial maintains four offices in the province: two in Montréal, one in Québec City and another in Sherbrooke. The Professionals Financial success is to a very great extent due to the fact that representatives of each association sit on its boards of directors and its various committees.

Sogemec Assurances inc. is a financial services enterprise that acts as an insurance broker. Its clientele, which was originally composed of members of the Fédération des médecins spécialistes, has grown consistently over the years with the advent of members of the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec, the Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec, the Corporation de service des notaires du Québec, the Association des médecins de langue française du Canada and the SERVIQ Corporation de services des ingénieurs du Québec. Established in 1968, its mission is to help its clientele make the best insurance decisions for them by suggesting specific solutions which fully meet their professional and personal needs. Whether the topic is life, disability, drugs or travel insurance or, alternatively, residential, automobile and business insurance, Sogemec Assurances inc. negotiates the best possible terms for its clients.
